Thule TracRac Van ES with Fixed Points for Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, 10-18
What does this rack do?
It increases the carrying capacity of your Sprinter van to 500 lbs on the roof as long as the weight is evenly distributed.
Does that mean that it increases my Sprinter’s overall ability to carry more load?
No. Unfortunately, it only means that you can carry more weight above your Sprinter. It does not add to the overall ability of the Sprinter to carry an extra load than it was originally designed to carry. In fact, you have to factor in the weight of your accessories in order to make sure you stay under the limit.
I hate hard to understand instructions. Does this thing’s installation instructions actually make sense?
The instructions we have for the item are fairly easy to understand. In fact, most of the installation instructions have no words at all. It is all pictures which are, generally, clear about what you are supposed to be doing.
Is there anything extra I need to finish this install?
Yes, around step 6 there is a place where it asks you to use silicone and it says, “not included.”
Anything else I should know before I start installing this thing on my vehicle?
Yes. The guidelines section of the instructions says that you should have all the doors open while you install this product.
I’ve heard that there are certain rules for how much my cargo and things like this can protrude from my vehicle. Is that true and is that something I should be watching out for?
Yes. You should always check your local laws for clearance dimensions. Every state is different and checking them before you drive through or you drive around your town is always advised.
I drive through and get my vehicle cleaned every once in a while. Can I leave this thing up when I do it?
It is not advised. You have to be wary of clearance levels and detergents that some of the cleaning services use. The cleaning agents they use can be very harmful to just about any surface that they come into contact with especially the nooks and cracks of your vehicle especially if they are allowed to build up and sit over time.
What does this “fixed point” thing mean?
It means that the product has fixed points where you can mount whatever you need. There are no other adjustments needed other than to find the right spots on the rack mount.
It seems like this would make a whistling noise due to it being on the roof because of the air flow. Is that going to be a problem?
Actually, Thule said that they designed this thing to be quiet and aerodynamic. There is still the possibility of getting wind noise but that would be because of the cargo and not the rack mount itself.
What are the dimensions of this product?
The official dimensions are 69 x 4.75 x 10.25. Keep in mind that those measurements will not be accurate for the shipping process. We would expect the shipping box to be bigger than the product.
Does this product come with the load stops as you show in the pictures? I’m really hoping it has those four that I see.
The manufacturer has told us that it does have those stops as pictured.
What kind of metal is this made out of?
It is made out of aluminum. It will resist rust and it will be very durable over time.
How many bars is this system?
It is a two-bar system.
