Putting Solar on a Sprinter

Solar is two decisions: which panels, and how they attach to the roof. Most Sprinter builds mount panels to roof rails or a rack instead of drilling the roof for each panel.

Panels

Renogy offers a 100-watt N-type panel, a 200-watt monocrystalline panel and a 200-watt flexible panel. Artek Energy makes a 210W flexible panel. Rigid panels are the common choice on a rack. Flexible panels sit lower and suit curved or tight roof spaces. Measure your roof space, and plan around a roof fan and any rack.

Connect it up

Do I need roof rails for solar?

Not always, but rails or a rack make mounting easier. The Van Wife solar bars and Tec Vanlife brackets are both built to attach to rails or a rack.

How much solar can fit on a Sprinter roof?

It depends on your wheelbase and what else is up there, like a fan or rack. Measure the open roof area and compare it to each panel's dimensions on the product page.
