Planning a Sprinter Water System

Start with where the tank goes. That decision sets how much water you carry and how much floor space you give up.

Choosing a water tank

  • Undercarriage tanks: mount outside the van and free up floor space. S&B makes a 22 gallon driver side and a 16 gallon passenger side tank for 2007-2024 144" and 170" Sprinters. NWConversions offers 11 and 22 gallon undercarriage tanks, and Tec Vanlife makes a 22 gallon stainless steel undermount tank.
  • Wheel well tanks: sit inside over the wheel well. Options include S&B 35 gallon tanks (passenger side, fits both sides, or for dual rear wheel vans) and NWConversions tanks from 20 to 36 gallons in left, right and centered versions.
  • Spare tire tanks: the S&B 35 gallon spare tire replacement tank for 2007-2024 144" and 170" Sprinters is our most popular tank. NWConversions also makes a 28 gallon spare water tank.
  • Tank and mount kits: Vanspeed sells 25 and 40 gallon tanks with their mounts.

RB Components adds a 22 gallon water or waste tank and a strap kit for it.

Sinks and showers

The Tec Vanlife black stainless steel sink with a hideaway faucet is our best seller here. For a shower, look at the Tec Vanlife ultra low profile shower pan and low profile drain, the Amazing Auto collapsing aluminum shower room, the Tetravan shower port system and the Van Essential Venture Clean shower set. Curtains come from Vannon, Tetravan and Tec Vanlife. Sink bases and shower units are in Sprinter van cabinets, and toilets are in camper van toilets.

Pumps and gauges

Round out the system with the Tec Vanlife 12V diaphragm water pump (3.5 GPM) and its tank level sensor and gauge combo.
