A 144" Mercedes Sprinter is the van most people try to fit a crosswise bed into, and its cargo box comes up a few inches short. Flarespace flares make up the difference: a molded fiberglass pod takes the place of each rear quarter panel and pushes the wall outward, so a mattress can run from side to side across the back. Flarespace quotes up to 80 inches of bed length that way, with the exact figure depending on how thick your wall finish is. Turning the bed sideways frees the rest of the floor for a galley, a dinette or a garage. Flarespace invented the van flare and still makes every one to order in Colorado and Washington.

Choose Your Sprinter 144" Flare Setup

Each side is its own dropdown. Order a matched pair, or set one side to no flare and buy a single. Both flares measure about 27.6" wide and 64" long.

  • Comes unpainted: every flare ships in raw gel coat, sanded to 300 grit and ready for primer. Flarespace does not paint flares, since a factory paint code alone rarely matches a particular van, so plan on your body shop color-matching them.
  • Regular or extended depth (driver side): a regular flare stands about 3.25" off the quarter panel. The extended driver flare goes roughly 2" deeper for extra toe room, which matters most when the bed sits high over a bike garage. It costs the same as regular depth.
  • Passenger side is regular depth only: a deeper pod there would block the sliding door. Regular depth flares clear the slider and also suit vans with sliding doors on both sides.
  • Extended depth is not for every van: skip it on a Sprinter with dual sliding doors or a right-hand-drive Sprinter.
  • Trim rings: molded fiberglass frames that close the gap between your interior wall panels and the inside edge of each flare. Each ring is matched to the depth of its flare.

Solid Sprinter 144" Flares vs. Window Flares

  • No opening: every flare on this listing is solid, in regular or extended depth on the driver side and regular depth on the passenger side.
  • Best for sleep: insulated fiberglass shuts out more light and noise than glass.
  • No bed length lost: with no window inset into the flare, the bed keeps its full length at every height.

For a view from the bed, our Sprinter 144" flares with windows pair the flare with its window in one order.

Sprinter 144" Flare Installation and Fitment

Have a professional body shop do the install. The shop preps and paints the gel coat, opens the quarter panel on the factory-stamped window line, treats the cut edge against rust, and bonds the flare on with the adhesive and instructions Flarespace ships with it. Flarespace's one-year limited warranty applies only to professionally installed flares, and because each set is built to order, line up your shop before you order. Passenger vans can take flares as well once the rear quarter glass is removed. To swing the rear doors a full 270 degrees afterward, the rear doors need Mercedes' extended door stopper, which will not help if you run a rear door ladder.

Fits 2007 and newer Mercedes Sprinter 2500 and 3500 vans on the 144" wheelbase with a medium or high roof, covering RWD, 4x4 and AWD drivetrains and single or dual rear wheel setups. The longer 170" Sprinter uses its own flares.
