Do I Need Three?
Federal rules (49 CFR 393.95) require commercial trucks and buses to carry three warning triangles, and a work van can fall under them depending on its weight rating and how it's used. Check your own state and fleet requirements. For everyone else, three is still the number that gives approaching drivers enough warning: on a two-lane road, the FMCSA layout puts one triangle about 10 feet behind the van on the traffic side, one about 100 feet behind, and one about 100 feet ahead.
