On a Sprinter, the passenger side is where most of the climbing happens: in and out of the cab, and through the sliding door to the cargo area or living space. The AMP Research PowerStep 75163-01A puts a single powered step on that side only. One 79" board runs from the front door back past the slider, so both doors get a step.
How It Works
Open either passenger-side door and the board swings down and out from under the rocker panel. Close the door and, after a two-second pause, it tucks back under the van, so it isn't hanging low on trails or in tight parking. If something blocks the board while it moves, it stops; clear it, then open and close the door to reset.
- 6" wide step with a slip-resistant surface.
- LED step lights mounted on the rocker come on when a door opens and switch off once the board stows, or after five minutes with the door left open.
- Aluminum board in textured black powder coat, on stainless steel hinge pins and hardware.
- Rated to 300 lb per door.
- 5-year limited warranty from AMP Research.
Installation
The kit comes with the board, motor and idler linkages, controller, wiring harness, support brackets, LED lamps, rivet nuts and a rivet nut tool. Mounting means drilling the body for rivet nuts using the supplied template, and the trigger wires are spliced into the van's door wiring rather than plugged into the OBD port. AMP puts the job at 3-5 hours and recommends a professional installer.
Want to hold the step out for roof access? An AMP override switch is sold separately. To clean, rinse the linkages (not the motors) and lubricate the pivots with dry silicone spray only, never grease or WD-40.
Sprinter Fitment
AMP lists this kit for 2010-2018 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vans and the 2007-2009 Sprinter sold under the Dodge badge. It covers the passenger side only; for steps on both sides, see the two-sided PowerStep kit. It does not work on 2019 and newer Sprinters because of their electronics.
